Every Sunday, at his parents’ in Naples
Vincenzo is 47. He has a small company about to lose its biggest client, a wife and a son who love him. Every Sunday he has lunch at his parents’ place in Naples, and every Sunday he can’t tell anyone how he really feels.
When reality gets too much, he is pulled into the old TV in his childhood bedroom and travels through the worlds of his imagination: the cartoons, video games and music he grew up with.
Mom: “Vince, how’s work? Everything fine?”
Vincenzo: “Everything’s fine, Mom.”
In every conversation the sincere line is right there on screen, faded. You can try to pick it, but Vincenzo freezes, trembles, and each attempt costs the line a word.
The family
Mom
Supreme commander of Sunday
Silver hair, keeps the remote in the fridge, twenty spare keys marked with nail polish.
“Because nobody loses it in there.”
Vincenzo
The hero, 47
Programmer, tired dad with a quiff. A joke ready for every occasion.
“Everything’s fine, Mom.”
Dad
One with the sofa
White beard, green waistcoat, penguin documentaries.
“Penguins. Huddled up tight, so they don’t feel the cold.”
Maria
His wife
She sees things even when he doesn’t say them.
“Are you going to tell your mother?”
Luca
His son, 19
Glasses and a purple hoodie. He made a music app and wants to show his dad.
“Dad, can I show you later?”
The old TV is still in his childhood bedroom
That’s where Vincenzo gets pulled in: a playable prologue, then six worlds of his imagination, from childhood to today.
